Two More Impaired Drivers Caught

(GRAVENHURST, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have taken two impaired drivers off the road between Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16, 2016 in Gravenhurst.

Officers were conducting a RIDE check on Muskoka Road 169 in Gravenhurst on Saturday, October 15 2016 just after 11:00 p.m. when a camper van hauling a trailer came through the check point and concerns over the presence of alcohol were quickly evident. The driver, 44 year-old Maurice LEBLANC of Port Perry, ON was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with more than 80 mgs of Alcohol in his blood CC253(1)(b). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on November 29, 2016 and received an immediate 90 day driver’s licence suspension and further had his vehicle towed and impounded.

At 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2016, Bracebridge OPP officers were conducting general patrol in the town of Gravenhurst and came upon a vehicle stopped near a stop sign on Bay Street, Gravenhurst. Officers approached the vehicle, found two men inside and when the officers were able to get the drivers attention, he put the vehicle in reverse and collided with the cruiser behind.

Police arrested and charged 21 year-old Howie SMITH of Haldimand County, ON with Driving While his Ability was Impaired CC 253(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 253(1)(b).

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on November 29, 2016 and received an immediate 90 day driver’s licence suspension and further had his vehicle towed and impounded.
