(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Emergency services personnel; including officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded yesterday, April 3, at approximately 7:30 pm to the report of missing canoeists on Pigeon Lake.
Three individuals had set out at approximately 5 pm to retrieve a pedal boat that had drifted from shore. The canoe capsized and only one person was successful in making it back to shore. None of the canoe occupants were wearing lifejackets. Missing is a 28 year old female from Halton and a 23 year old male from Scarborough.
Emergency services personnel searched the area last night for the missing persons. OPP resources including the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) and the helicopter will resume the search again this morning.
