(Georgian Bay Twp, ON). Members of Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment responded to a single vehicle, motorized snow vehicle collision that occurred on the north end of Go Home Lake in Georgian Bay township at approximately 1:00 am this morning, Saturday January 30, 2016.
Given the isolated location and unstable condition of the ice, the OPP contacted the Canadian Armed Forces Joint Rescue Coordination centre (JRCC) based in Trenton, ON who dispatched search and rescue resources including a Royal Canadian Air Force helicopter and personnel to the scene.
The two occupants of the snow vehicle, 25 year-old James BATES of Milton, ON and 22 year-old Jeffery DUNLOP of Pickering, ON, were located and airlifted to West Parry Sound hospital where they were pronounced dead.
