Two Charged With Unmarked Cigarettes

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment has charged two men with multiple offences under the Highway Traffic Act and Tobacco Tax Act following traffic stops on Argyle Street North and on Highway 6 in Caledonia, Haldimand County, Ontario.

On Friday November 25, 2016 at approximately 11:18 a.m., OPP were conducting routine patrol on Argyle Street North when a vehicle caught an alert officer’s attention. OPP stopped the vehicle and conducted an investigation.

OPP investigation determined that the driver’s license was suspended. OPP also located a quantity of contraband tobacco inside the vehicle.

OPP has charged 35-year-old Brian GREENHALGH of St.Catharines, Ontario with:

Driving while under suspension, under the Highway Traffic Act, and

Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes, under the Tobacco Tax Act

He is to appear in Provincial Court, Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.

On Saturday November 26, 2016, at approximately 9:11 a.m., OPP were conducting routine patrol on Highway 6 near Unity Side Road in Caledonia when they stopped a vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act offence.

OPP investigated and located a quantity of contraband tobacco inside the vehicle.

OPP has charged 42-year-old Mahir GOREGESS of Toronto, Ontario with:

Speeding, under the Highway Traffic Act

Plates not Authorized for vehicle, under the Highway Traffic Act

Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes, under the Tobacco Tax Act and

Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes For Sale, under the Tobacco Tax Act

He is to appear in Provincial Court, Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.
