Two Charged In Jet-Ski vs Sea-Doo Collision

(GEORGIAN TOWNSHIP) – On Saturday May 22, 2016 at approximately 2:19 p.m. members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision between two personal water crafts (PWC).

A Kawasaki jet-ski and a Sea-doo collided on the Trent Severn Waterway between Wigwam Island and Liberty Island. The Southern Georgian Bay Marine Unit responded to the call. As a result of the investigation, both the PWC operators, Markus ENGEL (age 19) of Cambridge, ON and Naser MALIK (age 27) of Toronto have been charged with:

Operating a vessel in a careless manner, without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration contrary to the Canada Shipping Act.

There have been eight boating deaths on Ontario Provincial Police- (OPP)-patrolled waterways so far this year, which is almost three times as many as this time last year.

Thankfully there were no injuries as a result of this collision. The OPP would like to remind boaters to be courteous and watchful of other vessels while out on the waterways.

OPP Marine Officers hit Ontario waterways to promote Safe Boating Awareness Week (May 21- 27, 2016) with the Canadian Safe Boating Council and other marine safety partners.
