Two Arrested For Southgate Break And Enter

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On September 6, 2016 at approximately 12:41 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a break-in and theft from a residence undergoing renovation on Southgate Sideroad 71 in the Township of Southgate.

Sometime between September 3rd and September 5th unknown person(s) forcibly entered the residence and stole a number of items which included a new American Standard toilet and bath tub, an exterior door, light switches, cement forms, and an assortment of Mastercraft, Makita and Rigid brand tools. In addition, the culprits used a 2008 Catr UT7 utility trailer on the property to transport the stolen goods.

On September 10, 2016 at approximately 7:00 a.m., an off-duty Shelburne Police Officer observed a suspicious pick-up truck and trailer occupied by 2 male occupants on the 4th Line in Dufferin County.

With the assistance of Shelburne Police Service, Orangeville Police Service and Dufferin OPP, the vehicle was stopped and the two males were arrested after it was found that the trailer was the one stolen from Southgate Sideroad 71 in Grey County. A number of stolen items were recovered as a result of the traffic stop.

A 33-year old Shelburne man and a 25-year old Melancthon Township man were charged with several criminal offences by Dufferin OPP.
