On October 13, 2013, at 11:08 a.m., a green Honda Civic made a right-turn out of the Metro parking lot onto Edinburgh Road South, failing to stop for a red light and cutting off an unmarked Guelph Police vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and the investigation revealed that the licence plate mounted to the rear of the vehicle was stolen. Police then learned that the 17-year-old driver was unlicenced, the vehicle was unfit to be driven on the road, it was not insured, and that the driver had failed to apply for the vehicle permit upon becoming the new owner a few weeks prior.
The driver and his 18-year-old passenger were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000. The driver was further charged with numerous Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act charges. They will appear in court in November, 2013.
