TRAIN COLLISION IN THE TOWN OF PERTH

((Lanark County, ON) – On December 23, 2013 at approximately 3:35 am, members of the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Perth Fire Service responded to a collision involving a train and dump truck at the crossing on Wilson Street in the Town of Perth. The driver of the dump truck was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

At this time, both Wilson Street and Drummond Street are closed at the tracks and traffic is being detoured through Glen Tay. It is expected that both roadways will re-open at approximately 8:45am.

The OPP, Ministry of Transportation, Transport Canada and CP Rail are all involved in the investigation into the cause of this collision The train was loaded with cargo and remained on the tracks. The only hazard was a small spill of diesel fuel from the dump truck which was dealt with by the Perth Fire Service. Alcohol is not considered to be a factor.
