On August 20, 2013 at 3:20 a.m., a Guelph Police Service patrol cruiser attempted to conduct a traffic stop with a car on Eastview Road. The car did pull over briefly but then fled at a high rate of speed. A pursuit of the vehicle began but was terminated quickly after assessing potential risk to public and police; however another cruiser in the area did observe the suspect car pull into a parking lot on Grange Road. Police were able to arrest the male driver and female passenger at this location without further incident. A search subsequent to arrest discovered a small quantity of marihuana in the vehicle.
The 14-year-old female passenger was later released without charges.
The 18-year-old Guelph male has been charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, breach probation, possession of a controlled substance, C.D.S.A., drive motor vehicle – no licence, H.T.A. and drive motor vehicle – no current validation on plate, H.T.A. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
