Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Charges

(TINY TOWNSHIP) – On December 5, 2016 at approximately 9:43 p.m. an officer from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle travelling over the posted speed limit on Highway 93 in Tiny Township, Ontario.

While conducting their investigation, police found the driver and a passenger to be in possession of illegal drugs. A quantity of suspected cocaine was located in the vehicle.

The female driver, Sara POTTER (age 22) of Penetanguishene, ON has been charged with:

Driving While Ability Impaired – Motor Vehicle (Drug) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Stunt Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Following too Closely contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on January 19, 2016 in Midland, Ontario.

Also charged is passenger Donald Alastair BYRON (age 23) of Mississauga, ON with:

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was held for a bail hearing on December 6, 2016
