Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Charges

(GOGAMA, ON) – On February 1, 2017 at 3:20 p.m., the Gogama Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a vehicle stop On Highway 144, approximately 15 kilometres south of the Watershed for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

While speaking with the driver, police noted a strong odour of marihuana emanating from the vehicle. The investigation revealed the driver had drugs inside the vehicle which resulted in the seizure of approximately seven pounds of Cannabis Marijuana and two grams of Cannabis (Shatter). The estimate street value of the drugs seized is $12,000.

Tyler THRONES, 26, of Sudbury was charged with:

Possession of a Schedule II substance – Cannabis Marihuana under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking over 3kg, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA

Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking under 3kg, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA

Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit, contrary to section 7(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

He was held for a bail hearing in Timmins Court. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 20, 2017.
