TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG AND OTHER CHARGES

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On July 9, 2014, just after 8:00 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet pickup truck for a speed violation, on Highway 401 westbound near Charing Cross Road.

During subsequent OPP traffic investigation at roadside, the officer observed an open container of an alcoholic beverage in the vehicle. A vehicle search was conducted and resulted in the seizure of approximately 140 grams of suspected marihuana and other drug paraphernalia.

As a result, the driver, 24 year old Patrick WHEELER, from Stoney Creek, ON, has been charged with the following:

Possession of Cannabis Marihuana Over 30 grams, under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Possession of Cannabis Resin Under 1 gram, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Driving Motor Vehicle With Liquor Readily Available, under the Liquor Licence Act

The passenger, 22 year old Michael LOVEGROVE, from Binbrook, ON, has been charged with Possession of Cannabis Marihuana Under 30 grams, under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Both males are scheduled to appear in a Chatham court on September 11, 2014, to answer to the charges.
