(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On December 5, 2015, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic enforcement Highway 17. At approximately 10:30 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop west of Blind River on a westbound vehicle that suddenly turned off the highway onto a dead end road.
Police investigation revealed the passenger had given a false name. A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of more than 60 grams of cannabis marihuana and cash.
The driver, Bradley GRIMM, 26 years of age, from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, was arrested and charged with:
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – over $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).
Fail to comply with Recognizance (x4), contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code.
Fail to comply with Probation Order (x2), contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code.
Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – over 1 gram, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).
Possession of a Scheduled II Substance for the purpose of trafficking – under 3 kilograms, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Drive motor vehicle – no licence, contrary section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The passenger, Matthew GRIMM, 24 years of age, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, was arrested and charged with:
Possession of property obtained by crime – over $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice contrary to section 403(1)(d) of the Criminal Code.
Fail to comply with Recognizance (x3), contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code.
Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – over 1 gram, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled substances Act.
Possession of a Scheduled II Substance for the purpose of trafficking – under 3 kilograms, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Both accused were held for bail and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie.
