Traffic Complaint Leads To Charges

(KENORA, ON) A Kenora woman and a man from Manitoba are facing a number of criminal charges following a series of events on Monday.

On Monday, September 26, 2016 around 10:00 am, police received a report of a traffic complaint on Highway 71, south of Kenora. Police located the vehicle and attempted a vehicle stop. The vehicle failed to stop for police and was later located in the driveway of a residence in the Longbow Lake area. The suspect had left the car and a woman and two small children were still in the vehicle. It was determined the car was stolen and while police were still at the scene with the vehicle, the male suspect stole a pick-up truck and fled the scene, leaving the woman and children behind.

The investigation determined the male and female were acquainted. After the male left the scene in the pick-up truck, he left the truck and stole another vehicle in the city of Kenora. He was located in Manitoba later in the evening and arrested by RCMP in Lac Du Bonnet, Manitoba.

As a result of this investigation 29 year old Chantal LAVIGNE of Kenora has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code (CC):

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 s. 354(1)(a)

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 s. 354(1)(a)

She has been released to appear in Kenora Court on November 17, 2016 to answer to the charges

21 year old David BURLING of Manitoba has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code (CC):

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 s. 354(1)(a) CC

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 s. 354(1)(a) CC

Dangerous Driving of a Motor Vehicle s.249(1)(a) CC

Break, Enter a place and Commit an Indictable Offence s. 348(1)(b) CC

Theft of a Motor Vehicle over $5000 s. 334(a) CC

Obstruct Peace Officer s. 129(a) CC

Driving While Disqualified-court order s. 259(4) CC

Fail to Comply with Recognizance s. 145(3) CC

He has been held in custody in Manitoba.

The investigation is continuing.
