Tractor Trailer Loses Wheel On Hwy 401

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On June 17, 2015, just after 1:30 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) attended at the scene of a tractor trailer that had lost a wheel on Highway 401.

The Freightliner tractor trailer was westbound on Highway 401 near Kennesserie Road, when the front driver’s side wheel came detached from the vehicle. The wheel crossed the centre median, continued through the eastbound lanes, entered the south ditch and went through the fence before it came to rest in a creek in the field. The driver of the tractor trailer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pull over on the shoulder of the highway.

No collisions occurred as a result, and no injuries were reported.

The MTO is continuing with the investigation.
