(LEEDS, ON.) β Officers of the Leeds Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are continuing an investigation where a collision claimed the life of an Ontario man.
On the 3rd of September 2015 at about 4:00 AM, Ontario Provincial Police officers were notified of an incident on Highway 401 east of the Mallorytown Service Centre. Investigation revealed that a tractor trailer was eastbound when it crossed the median into the westbound lanes. After crossing over both westbound lanes, through a metal barrier, into a rock embankment, the tractor trailer exploded on impact. The lone male driver was able to free himself from the tractor trailer, and was further assisted to a ditch by a passerby.
The driver from the Toronto area was transported to hospital in Brockville where he was pronounced deceased.
No other vehicles were involved.
The east and west lanes remain closed as OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators, and OPP Identification complete there investigation.
