(SARNIA, ON)- On August 17, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. members of the Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended Highway 40 south of Confederation Line, City of Sarnia to investigate a four vehicle collision.

Investigation revealed that a motor vehicle was stopped on north bound Highway 40 in an attempt to make a left turn onto Gladwish Drive. As a result, two more vehicles were stopped awaiting the lead vehicle to complete its left turn. It was at this time a tractor trailer travelling north bound on Highway 40 failed to acknowledge the stopped vehicles. As a result, the tractor trailer struck the rearward most stopped vehicle causing a series of collisions.

All of the drivers that were involved in the collision, with the exception of the tractor trailer driver, were taken to Hospital with moderate injuries. The male driver of the tractor trailer, Rene ETHIER, 57 years of age, of London, Ontario was charged with alleged Careless Driving. Highway 40 was closed for approximately one hour while the OPP investigated the collision and removed debris from the Highway.

Again, the OPP are warning drivers to maintain a heightened awareness of their surroundings while operating a motor vehicle. In order to do this they must avoid insignificant distractions. The OPP will continue to be vigilant in enforcing all avoidable collisions.
