Investigators have arrested and charged a second male in connection to the overdoses that occurred in downtown Barrie Sunday, October 2, 2016, just after midnight. Additional charges have also been laid on a 22-year-old Barrie male.

Early Sunday morning outside the Queens Nightclub a male appeared to be in medical distress and had labored breathing. EMS attended shortly after Police arrived and treated the 25-year-old Orillia male and transported him to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

While Police were on scene a second male, a 26-year-old from Toronto, collapsed on the roadway in the same area. Then a third male, a 26-year-old from Barrie, collapsed a few moments later. The males were transported to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

A half hour later a 22-year-old female from Barrie collapsed in the area of Fred Grant Square and went unresponsive. She was also transported to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

During the investigation Police learned that a fourth male, a 29-year- old from Barrie had been taken to the hospital by EMS. The four males and one female had attended a party earlier that evening and at the time believed they had consumed Cocaine. Investigators have now received toxicology reports which have confirmed that a combination of Heroin and Fentanyl was consumed by all five individuals.

A 20-year-old Kingston male has been arrested and charged with; Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking –MDMA (Ecstasy), Possession of a Schedule I Substance – MDMA (Ecstasy), Fail to Comply with Probation, Trafficking a Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl and Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence of Importing Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl.

In addition to the charges laid on October 4, 2016, the 22-year-old Barrie male has been further charged with; Trafficking a Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl and Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence of Importing Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl.

The two accused men will appear in a Barrie court on February 27, 2017.
