Too Many Passengers In Vehicle

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Sunday August 11, 2013 around 2:30 a.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers on patrol observed a mini-van wandering within its lane on Main St. West in Listowel. The officers pulled over the vehicle and spoke with the 17 year old female driver who was in possession of a Class G2 Ontario driver’s licence. The van was found to have 9 other passengers in the 7 seat capacity vehicle. Therefore 3 passengers had no seatbelt available.

The driver, a Twp. of Perth East resident, was charged with, “Glass G2 licence holder – more passengers than seat belts”. Three male passengers, all Twp. of Perth East residents, ranging in ages from 19 to 21 were charged with, “passenger – fail to occupy position with seat belt”.

As a G2 driver you can drive at any time, day or night. You can drive on your own and on any Ontario road with only these 3 important conditions:

Conditions:

You must not drink any alcohol if you will be driving.

Your blood alcohol concentration must be zero.

Each person must have a working seatbelt so your vehicle is not overcrowded and everyone is protected. One person, One seatbelt.

Teenage G2 drivers must limit the number of passengers under the age of 20 late at night.

3 For the first six months, G2 drivers aged 19 and under cannot carry more than one passenger aged 19 and under between midnight and 5 a.m.

*Does not apply if your only front seat passenger is a fully licensed driver with four or more years of driving experience,

or if the young passengers are your immediate family.
