Three Vehicles Involved In Collision On Highway 89

(MINTO TOWNSHIP, ON) On Tuesday June 4, 2013 at approximately 12:00pm the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call regarding a collision involving 3 vehicles in the construction area on Highway 89 between Concession 12 and County Rd. 6 in Minto Twp. Firefighters from the Minto Fire Department attended along with Paramedics from the Guelph-Wellington EMS.

Investigation revealed that 2 vehicles a 2008 GMC Yukon and a 2001 Ford delivery vehicle – were stopped in a construction zone that was being controlled by a flag person. A third vehicle – a 2008 Freightliner failed to stop and rear-ended the Ford delivery truck. The driver of the GMC, David Zyta of Wellesley was taken to Louise Marshall Hospital in Mount Forest by land ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Ministry of the Environment (MOE) was notified due to one of the vehicles involved in the collision leaking fuel, however they did not attend, and the leak was contained. The highway was closed for a short period of time at that location and has since reopened.

Leslie Smith aged 59 of Niagra Falls has been charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Offences court on July 17, 2013 to answer to the charge.
