(MAPLETON TWP.,ON) – On August 19, 2015 at approximately 2:42 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received a report of a three vehicle collision on Wellington County Road 8 at Wellington County Road 9, Township of Mapleton. Wellington County OPP Officers and Perth County OPP responded along with Mapleton Fire and Rescue, Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Wellington County Roads Department and Perth County Roads Department.
The male driver of a car was transported by Guelph-Wellington EMS to a local hospital then airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital with life threatening injuries. The male driver of a tractor trailer was transported to a local hospital by Guelph-Wellington EMS with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
Members from the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team are attending the scene. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The intersection is expected to remain closed for approximately 6 hours. Motorists are asked to find alternate routes around the closed intersection.
