(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers and fire crews from both the Hensall & Exeter Fire Departments were pressed into duty late Canada Day evening to assist with a rescue from the Hensall water tower.
Just before 10:30 p.m. Huron OPP responded to the water tower located on Richmond Street North in Hensall after receiving a call from a concerned citizen. The witness reported they could hear some youth up on the water tower laughing and setting off fireworks.
Alarmingly, three males in their 20’s gained access into the fenced in base of the water tower and proceeded to climb up about 200 feet above ground level to an observation deck. Perched from high above they consumed alcohol and let off fireworks. They also told the responding emergency crews they were trying to catch a glimpse of the fireworks show in Grand Bend.
Against the directions from the responding officers two of the youth climbed down on their own, the third male was safely lowered by the fire rescue team.
This was an incredibly dangerous stunt
