(WINDSOR, ON) — On March 6, 2016 at approximately 7:10 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Essex County received information regarding three vehicles travelling at very high rates of speed, westbound on Highway 401 from Chatham.
An Essex County OPP officer was monitoring traffic at Puce Road when two Mercedes’ and a BMW passed him westbound at speeds near 170 kilometers/hour.
The officer caught up to the BMW on Huron Church Road in the City of Windsor. While dealing with the first vehicle, one of the Mercedes’ involved attended the scene. Both males and lone occupants of their respective vehicles were arrested at the scene.
Officers broadcast information regarding the third vehicle which was refused entry into the United States via the Ambassador Bridge. He was subsequently turned back into Canada and OPP officers, along with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers arrested him at the bridge.
All three men, ages, 20, 21 and 24, and all of Winnipeg, Manitoba were charged with Street Racing. All three vehicles were impounded. The men will appear in a Windsor court at a later date to answer to the charges.
