Thomas EDDY – 140 in a 90, Breach

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A 24 year old male driver and a 22 year old female passenger were arrested on January 13, 2014 following a traffic stop in South Huron.

At 11:50 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer driving an unmarked police vehicle observed a black GMC Jimmy fail to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Hern Line and Thames Road, east of Exeter. The driver of the GMC then continued westbound on Thames Road driving at a speed well above the posted 90 km/h speed limit. The driver passed two vehicles and accelerated to speeds in excess of 140 km/h. A few kilometers down the road, the GMC driver was stopped by a marked police vehicle at the east end of Exeter.

Officers spoke with the female passenger and it was later confirmed by police the passenger provided a false name to police in an effort to mislead officers in their investigation. As it turned out the driver was currently serving a probation sentence to have no contact with his female passenger.

As a result, the driver, 24 year old Thomas EDDY from Forest has been charged with:

Two Counts of Fail to Comply with a Probation Order contrary to section 733.1(1) Criminal Code

Racing a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 172(1) Highway Traffic Act

Driver – Fail to Properly Wear Seat Belt contrary to section 106 (2) Highway Traffic Act

Fail to Notify Change of Address on Licence contrary to section 33(1) Highway Traffic Act

He had a bail court appearance yesterday at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He has since been released from custody and now has a court appearance scheduled for January 23, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter.

His driver’s licence has been suspended for seven days and his vehicle has been impounded.

The female passenger was positively identified as Kelly BRUNER, age 22 from Goderich. She has been charged with Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to section 129(a) Criminal Code. She has been released from custody and has a scheduled court appearance on February 27, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter.
