This Week In Russell County

(EMBRUN, ON) – The Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating several incidents after responding to 198 calls for service from Monday August 31 to Saturday September 5.

Domestic Disputes

OPP officers investigated 4 domestic disputes from Monday to Saturday. One male was charged with two counts of assault. No other criminal offences occurred.

Motorcycle collision

At 4:17 pm on Wednesday September 2, OPP officers, paramedics and Russell Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Gregoire Rd and Route 300 involving two vehicles and a motorcycle. Preliminary investigation shows the motorcycle, a 2014 Yamaha was driven by Derick WILSON 32 of Marionville was travelling northbound when it hit the rear passenger side of the 2013 Hyundai that was travelling southbound on Gregoire St and making a left hand turn onto Route 300. WILSON was ejected and transported to the hospital for treatment. During the collision, the motorcycle skidded in the southbound lane causing damage to a 2004 pickup travelling Gregoire Rd.

The intersection was closed for the Technical Collision Investigators to complete their work and the removal of the vehicles. Provincial Constable Nick Murray lead the investigation.

Male Charged for Public Intoxication

On Friday September 5 shortly after 9:00 pm OPP officers were patrolling on Laurier St in Clarence Rockland when they were flagged down by pedestrian advising that a cyclist had fell to the ground. The male was intoxicated and injured. He was arrested for the offence of public intoxication and he was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Andre GAUTHIER 60 of Rockland was issued a ticket for the offence. Provincial Constable Marc Leblanc investigated.

Impaired Driver

Early morning on Saturday September 5, OPP officers received a report of a possible impaired driver on Highway 417 existing towards Russell Township. Provincial Constable Gabriel Iordache and Provincial Constable Mike Cunning were conducting at R.I.D.E initiative at the corner of Craig St and Concession St. The officers observed the vehicle on Concession St. The female driver had been drinking the evening before and was arrested after failing a roadside alcohol screening tests. Following breath tests at the detachment Lindsay OLESOVSKY 23 was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. She was released on a promise to appear in court in L’Orignal on September 30.

Labour Day week traffic initiative

Russell County officers conducted multiples traffic initiative over the Labour Day week. A total of 61 speeding charges under the section 128 of the Highway traffic act were issued. 22 motorists were charges for not wearing their seatbelt and 8 drivers were charged for using their communication device while driving.
