BACK TO SCHOOL = STUDENTS WALKING AND BUSES ON THE ROAD!
(HAWKESBURY, ON) – Students are heading back to class and motorists should be on the lookout for students AND school buses. The Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind everyone that some school buses will be on the road this week, while the remainder will be back in service on Tuesday, September 6, 2016.
Safety is the number one priority.
Every driver, encountering a stopped school bus that has its overhead red signal-lights flashing, shall stop before reaching the bus and shall not proceed until the bus moves or the overhead red signal-lights have stopped flashing. The minimum fine for failing to stop is $400, (Section 175(11) of the Highway Traffic Act).
Many children walk to school and motorists should also be aware of the increased pedestrian traffic as children make their way to school.
