(Marmora, ON) – On September 3, 2014 a business owner in the Village of Marmora received a telephone call from a male identifying himself as working for Toronto Hydro. The caller stated that the business was scheduled for a disconnection of power due to having outstanding utility bills. Being skeptical of the validity of the call, the business owner requested to speak with a supervisor. Another male, the alleged supervisor” came on the line confirming that the business was on a list to have the hydro disconnected within the hour if payment was not received and he also communicated knowledge of personal and financial information. The business owner proceeded to pay over $1000 through a provided “1-800†number by using pre-paid credit cards.
