The Guelph Police Service Fraud Unit wants to remind citizens to be watchful about what information they provide to incoming telephone calls – both live people & automated recordings. It is important to keep in mind that there are numerous scams out there that attempt to gain personal information through “telemarketingâ€Â. The Fraud Unit recommends you take all necessary steps to verify who you are talking to. If you are not comfortable discussing personal matters over the phone – indicate that and hang up. You can always call back the business contacting you by looking up their phone number from a trusted source – or going in to the business in person to discuss things. Remain vigilant about providing personal information to anyone.
