Telemarketing advice from the Guelph Police Fraud Unit

The Guelph Police Service Fraud Unit wants to remind citizens to be watchful about what information they provide to incoming telephone calls – both live people & automated recordings. It is important to keep in mind that there are numerous scams out there that attempt to gain personal information through “telemarketing”. The Fraud Unit recommends you take all necessary steps to verify who you are talking to. If you are not comfortable discussing personal matters over the phone – indicate that and hang up. You can always call back the business contacting you by looking up their phone number from a trusted source – or going in to the business in person to discuss things. Remain vigilant about providing personal information to anyone.
