SUV vs Train – Driver Sent To Hospital With Life Threatening Injuries

(Guelph Twp, ON) – On Friday, March 9th, 2012 at 9:34am, officers from the County of Wellington O.P.P. responded to a report of a car vs. train crash on Guelph-Woolwich Townline Road south of Highway 7 (just west of Guelph). Officers from Waterloo Regional Police Service along with Firefighters from Guelph Fire Department and Paramedics from Guelph-Wellington EMS also responded to the scene.

The crash occurred when a 2007 Suzuki GVT SUV travelling southbound on Guelph-Woolwich Townline Road, skidded sideways onto the railway track and was then struck by an eastbound VIA Rail train #84.

The driver of the SUV, Berrak KILICOGLU 47-years-old of Breslau, Ontario was ejected from her vehicle. She was transported to Guelph General Hospital by Paramedics with life-threatening injuries. She was later transferred to Hamilton General Hospital where she is listed in critical but stable condition.

No one on the train was injured. It was transporting 146 passengers at the time of the crash. Victim Services Wellington was also called in to provide support to those involved in the crash.

Technical Collision Investigators from West Region O.P.P. were called to the scene to assist with the investigation. The roadway remained closed for most of the day while officers conducted their investigation. It has now been re-opened.
