SUV Hits Pedestrian

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Saturday, October 19, 2013 around 7:10 p.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle / pedestrian collision at the intersection of Wallace Ave. North and Elizabeth St. in Listowel.

Investigation determined that a female pedestrian had been waiting at the north-west corner of the intersection for the pedestrian crossing light to indicate her right of way to cross from West to East. A motorist operating a Chevrolet Trailblazer had been stopped in the east bound lane on Elizabeth St. W. When the light turned green the motorist proceeded into the intersection and began to turn North on Wallace Ave. N. striking the pedestrian who had proceeded to cross Wallace Ave. N. on a green pedestrian light.

The Trailblazer struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk, causing her to be knocked to the ground. The pedestrian, a 56 year old resident of the Municipality of North Perth, was transported to the Listowel Memorial Hospital where she was treated for her minor injuries.

The driver of the Trailblazer a 25 year old female resident of the Municipality of North Perth has been charged with “fail to yield to pedestrian”.
