SUV Drives Into Back Of Combine-Harvester

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Wednesday August 20, 2014, shortly after 1 p.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a collision involving a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and a combine on Perth Road 140 south of Teviotdale.

Investigation revealed that a John Deere combine was driving north bound on the east gravel shoulder of Perth Road 140 when a north bound Hyundai Tucson drove into the back of the combine. The impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles, and resulted in injuries to both drivers.

The drivers were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Both the 27 year old male driver of the combine, a West Grey Twp. resident, and the 29 year old male driver of the Hyundai, a resident of Brockton, sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the Hyundai has been charged with the following Highway Traffic Act of Ontario offences; “careless driving”, and “drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit”.

Area motorists are reminded that farm machinery traffic tends to be heavier on Perth County roads towards the end of the summer and into the harvest months. Farm vehicles also tend to be larger than other traffic on our roads. In addition they usually travel between 30-40 km/h, while other vehicles may be travelling 80-90 km/h on the same road. To avoid a potential collision, motorists are to use good judgement when approaching and overtaking farm machinery.
