(Town of New Tecumseth, ON)- On the 14th of May 2015, at 7:40 p.m. an officer from the Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was approached by a concerned citizen who had observed a suspicious package on the train tracks just south of the 5th Line, west of Queen Street and north of O’Leary Court in the Township of New Tecumseth (Tottenham).
The officer attended the location and observed the same package that appeared to be an explosive device. A safe parameter was established, and the OPP Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) attended the scene.
The device was disrupted and deemed inert at 1:35 a.m. by the EDU.
The investigation is ongoing, and the OPP are seeking the assistance from the public. The area in which the device was located is a well travelled trail by members of the community and anyone with information or may have observed suspicious persons in that area are urged to contact the Nottawasaga OPP at (705) 434-1939 or 1-888-310-1122.
