(COCHRANE, ON) – On December 8, 2014, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Cochrane Detachment responded to a residential fire on Francis Road in Brower Township located in an unincorporated area east of Cochrane, Ontario.
On December 10, 2014, human remains were discovered in the fire debris. The identity of the remains and the cause of death is not known at this time. A post mortem is scheduled to be conducted December 12, 2014 at the Office of the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Toronto.
Investigation continues at the scene by the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM), assisted by the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU) to determine the cause of the fire.
The OPP is appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity or has any information about this fire to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
The OPP investigation is under the direction of Detective Inspector Martin Graham of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
