Suspended Driver With Weapon At RIDE Facing Numerous Charges

(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) – On April 1, 2017 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on the Hanlon Expressway in the City of Guelph.

At approximately 1:42 a.m. a beige Honda Civic entered the R.I.D.E. check. Officers observed a licence plate infraction and when asked, the driver could not provide a drivers licence, vehicle registry or proof of insurance.

Investigations revealed that the driver was suspended and held to a Recognizance of a Justice to not to operate a motor vehicle. The driver was arrested and a search incident to arrest revealed that he was in possession of a prohibited edged weapon.

22-year-old Khalil GHOOSI of Guelph was held for bail and has been charged with 1 count each of unauthorized possession of weapon and fail to comply with recognizance under the Criminal Code of Canada, operate a motor vehicle without insurance under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act and driving while under suspension, driving a motor vehicle without a validated permit, and failing to surrender a permit for motor vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act.
