(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA, ON) – On Friday April 14, 2017 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on Highway 6 north of Guelph. At approximately 11:00 p.m. the driver of a grey Chevrolet Cruze entered the R.I.D.E. check.
While speaking with the male driver officers detected the odour of fresh marihuana and suspected that he may be in the possession of a controlled substance. When asked, the driver admitted to recently smoking marihuana and then surrendered a baggy of marihuana to police. Search incident to arrest revealed the driver was also in possession of cocaine. Further investigation revealed that his driver’s licence was suspended.
31-year-old Mathew Stanley BOYS of Fergus has been charged with Driving While Suspended contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He was also charged with two counts of Possessing a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
