Suspect Flees RIDE Tracked Down By K9 – Numerous Charges

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On June 5, 2015, members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) established a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere) initiative on 69 Highway in The Township of the Archipelago.

At approximately 9:35 p.m., officers observed a southbound car approaching the RIDE check point. The car slowed down briefly and then quickly accelerated past the RIDE stop, squealing tires and kicking up gravel from the southbound shoulder. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver failed to do so. Officers pursued the vehicle losing sight of it on Nobel Road in McDougall Township. Officers searched the side roads and located the abandoned vehicle. OPP K-9 and Emergency Response Teams (ERT) members were called in to track the suspects. The suspects were located and apprehended.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, Nicholas WHITE, 22 years of age from Morinville, Manitoba was arrested and charged with:

1. Dangerous operation of motor vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code (CC).

2. Flight while pursued by Peace Officer contrary to the CC.

3. Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 contrary to the CC

4. Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to the CC.

5. Fail to comply with Probation order contrary to the CC.

6. Trespass at night contrary to the CC (4 Counts).

7. Fail to comply with recognizance contrary to the CC (5 counts).

8. Theft over $ 5000 contrary to the CC.

9. Break and enter with intent contrary to the CC.

10. Mischief under $5000 contrary to the CC.

11. Personation with intent to avoid arrest contrary to the CC

12. Drive while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The passenger Amy SCHMIDT, 22 years of age from Sylvan Lake, Alberta was arrested and charged with Dangerous operation of motor vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code (CC).

1. Flight while pursued by Peace Officer contrary to the CC.

2. Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 contrary to the CC.

3. Fail to comply with Probation order contrary to the CC (2 counts).

4. Trespass at night contrary to the CC (4 Counts).

5. Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 contrary to the CC.

6. Theft over $ 5000 contrary to the CC.

7. Break and enter with intent contrary to the CC.

8. Mischief under $5000 contrary to the CC.

Both accused were held in custody and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound.
