Stunt Drivers Charged – KAUFMANN and SLATER

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On April 2, 2016 a member of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting stationary radar on Highway 69 in Mowat Township. At approximately 10:33 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a south bound vehicle that was observed travelling at a high rate of speed and as a result was stopped for “Speeding”.

The driver, Christopher SLATER, 31 years of age from Hamilton was issued a Provincial Offences Notice for “Speeding” contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

Subsequently as the accused drove away, he spun his tires leaving over five metres of skid marks and almost collided with an oncoming vehicle. Police conducted another traffic stop for “Stunt Driving”.

The driver, Christopher SLATER was arrested and charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the HTA. His driver’s licence has been suspended for seven days and the vehicle he was operating has been impounded for seven days. He was served a summons requiring him to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on June 7, 2016 to answer to the charge.

MAN CHARGED WITH STUNT DRIVING

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On April 3, 2016, at 6:58 a.m., a member of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting radar on Highway 69 in The Archipelago Township. Police conducted a traffic stop on a north bound vehicle that was observed travelling at a high rate of speed and as a result was stopped for “Stunt Driving”.

The driver, Jeffrey KAUFMANN, 31 years of age from Barrie was arrested and charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the HTA. His driver’s licence has been suspended for seven days and the vehicle he was operating has been impounded for seven days. He was served a summons requiring him to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on April 19, 2016 to answer to the charge.

Every person convicted of Race a Motor Vehicle is liable to a fine of not less than $2,000 and not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both, in addition to his or her driver’s licence being suspended.
