Student Gets $305 Ticket For Smoking

(ST.MARYS, ON) On Tuesday morning May 08, 2012, a Perth County OPP officer in St.Marys, while at the St.Marys District and Vocational Institute was alerted by a teacher that a violation under the Smoke Free Ontario Act was taking place on the school grounds.

The officer observed a student smoking a cigarette while watching a soccer game. The student was served a $305 ticket by the officer.

The Smoke-Free Ontario Act came into force on May 31, 2006, it prohibits smoking in schools and on school property.
