Stormont Dundas Press Releases

(South Glengarry) – As a result of an ongoing investigation into a mischief incident, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two (2) adults and two young persons.

On June 4, 2016 – SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of damage caused to a religious shrine located at the rear of Eglise Sainte-Marie de l’Assomption in the Village of Green Valley, South Glengarry Township. Investigation indicated that flower planters, benches, plumbing and a door to a makeshift tomb had been targeted and purposely damaged.

Drake ANTOINE (18) of North Glengarry Township, Travis BIRT (20) of Alexandria, Ontario, a 17-year-old female youth from South Glengarry Township and a 16-year-old male youth from North Glengarry township were all subsequently arrested and each charged with;

– Mischief Over $5000

All were released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on August 10, 2016. The names of the youths are being withheld as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

DOMESTIC INVESTIGATION

(North Glengarry) – On June 16, 2016 at approximately 11:58am, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a domestic situation at a residence on McCormick Road, North Glengarry Township. Investigation indicated that an altercation between a male and his spouse resulted in the male uttering threats to cause damage and harassed the victim and another family member in a threatening manner. Upon arrest, the accused became resistant with officers.

The 40-year-old male is charged with;

– Utter Threats (2 counts)

– Criminal Harassment

– Resist Peace Officer

He was held in custody pending an appearance (bail) at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall. His name is being withheld in order to protect the identity of the victims.

DRUGS SEIZED

(South Stormont) – On June 16, 2016 at approximately 11:35am, an OPP Highway Safety Division (HSD) officer intercepted a vehicle on Highway 401, South Stormont Township. The stop resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected marihuana and Codeine pills.

The male driver, Denis VORSIN (23) of St-Laurent, Quebec was arrested and is charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance (2 counts)

He was released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on August 12, 2016.

OPERATION CORRIDOR RESULTS

(SD&G) – On June 16, 2016 – OPP HSD officers in partnership with members of the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) conducted enforcement of traffic, including Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV) along Highway 401 in the United Counties. The following are results (charges) of the initiative;

– Speeding (15)

– Seat Belt (15)

– Distracted Driving (1)

– Other (24)

– Drugs Seized (2)

– CMV inspections (19)

THEFT OF RIDING MOWER

(South Glengarry) – Overnight (June 15-16, 2016), a 2011 orange “Simplicity” Zero-turn riding mower with a 52” deck was removed from a property on Tyotown Road, South Glengarry Township.

An investigation continues.
