Stormont Dundas Press Releases

IMPAIRED DRIVERS

(South Glengarry) – On April 3, 2015 at approximately 3:41pm, an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division (HSD) officer intercepted a vehicle on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township. The stop revealed that the adult female driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Vivian STE-CROIX (59) of Barachois, Quebec was arrested and is charged with;

– Driving a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired by Alcohol

– Driving with More than 80 Milligrams of Alcohol in Blood

She was released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on May 13, 2015.

(South Glengarry) – On April 4, 2015 at approximately 3:53pm, a Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) OPP officer intercepted a vehicle on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township. The stop revealed that the adult male driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Cyril SIMMONDS (64) of Pickering, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

– Driving a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired by Alcohol

– Driving with More than 80 Milligrams of Alcohol in Blood

He was released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on May 13, 2015.

(South Stormont) – On April 5, 2015 at approximately 12:55pm, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on County Road 15, South Stormont Township. Investigation indicated that the vehicle had been taken without the owner’s consent in the city of Ottawa and that the adult male driver was under the influence of a drug.

Robert CYR (41) of Ottawa, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

– Take Motor Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent

– Driving a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired by a Drug

He was held in custody pending a court appearance (bail) at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall.

DRUGS SEIZED AT TRAFFIC STOPS

(South Glengarry) – On April 4, 2015 at approximately 9:30pm, SD&G OPP officers were conducting Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) checks on County Road 2, South Glengarry Township. Officers observed an approaching vehicle purposely evade the area; it was intercepted a short distance away. The stop resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected marihuana.

The male driver, Reid LEPINE (23) of Cornwall, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance – Under 30 Grams

He was released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on May 13, 2015.

(South Dundas) – On April 6, 2015 at approximately 9:46am, an SD&G OPP officer intercepted a vehicle for speeding on Highway 401, South Dundas Township. The stop resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected marihuana and cannabis resin.

The male driver, Derek HAYWARD-BARAKETT (26) of Montreal, Quebec was arrested and is charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance (2 counts)

– Speeding (Highway Traffic Act)

He was released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Morrisburg on June 9, 2015.

(South Glengarry) – On April 6, 2015 at approximately 3:22pm, OPP HSD officers were conducting RIDE checks at an off-ramp of Highway 401, South Glengarry Township. A check of a vehicle resulted in the seizure of a quantity of marihuana, psilocybin and methamphetamine pills.

The male driver, David HOYT (32) and female passenger Alexis PARADIS (25) both from Moncton, New Brunswick were arrested and each charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (2 counts)

– Possession of a Controlled Substance

Both were released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on July 8, 2015.

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON

(North Stormont) – On April 5, 2015 at approximately 5:15pm, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a family dispute at a residence on First Street, North Stormont Township. Investigation indicated that an altercation between an adult male and another male resulted in the victim being assaulted with a knife. The victim sustained minor injuries. A quantity of suspected marihuana was also seized from the accused and further information revealed he was in contravention of conditions imposed from a previous incident

The 21-year-old male from South Stormont Township was arrested and is charged with;

– Assault with a Weapon

– Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

– Possession of a Controlled Substance – Under 30 Grams

– Fail to Comply with Probation Order (4 counts)

He was held in custody pending a court appearance (bail) at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall. His name is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.

DISQUALIFIED DRIVER

(South Glengarry) – On April 3, 2015 at approximately 11:09am, an OPP HSP officer intercepted a vehicle on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township. A check of the male driver revealed his driving privilege were disqualified and suspended.

Perry RIVARD (50) of Deseronto, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

– Driving While Disqualified

– Driving While Under Suspension (Highway Traffic Act)

He was released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on May 19 for the criminal charge and Cornwall on June 10, 2015 for the provincial charge.

EXCESSIVE SPEEDS

(SD&G) – Over the past Holiday weekend, SD&G OPP officers conducting speed measuring enforcement intercepted the following vehicles for traveling at excessive speeds. In all stops, the vehicle was impounded and the driver’s permit seized for seven (7) days in accordance to policy.

– April 3, 2015 – 1:31pm; vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township, speeding 157km/h (100km/h zone). Male driver (54) from Etobicoke, Ontario charged accordingly.

– April 3, 2015 – 7:34pm; vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township, speeding 162km/h (100km/h zone). Male driver (43) from North York, Ontario charged accordingly. Additional charges of Driving While Under Suspension, Fail to Give Identification and Fail to Notify Change of Address also issued.

– April 4, 2015 – 9:58am; vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township, speeding 170km/h (100km/h zone). Male driver (51) from Toronto, Ontario charged accordingly.

– April 4, 2015 – 8:08pm; vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township, speeding 154km/h (100km/h zone). Male driver (33) from Seattle, Washington charged accordingly.

– April 5, 2015 – 11:11am; vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Dundas Township, speeding 157km/h (100km/h zone). Male driver (19) from Toronto, Ontario charged accordingly.

– April 5, 2015 – 6:28pm; vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township, speeding 168km/h (100km/h zone). Female driver (28) from Pennsylvania, USA charged accordingly.

– April 5, 2015 – 8:05pm; vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township, speeding 154km/h (100km/h zone). Male driver (29) from Markham, Ontario charged accordingly.

– April 6, 2015 – 7:34am; vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Dundas Township, speeding 152km/h (100km/h zone). Female driver (41) from Whitby, Ontario charged accordingly.

BREAK-INS

(South Dundas) – On April 6, 2015 at approximately 5:30pm, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a break-in in progress at a residence on County Road 16, South Dundas Township. Investigation indicated that the owner had returned home and observed two males running from the residence and fled the area in a small silver passenger vehicle. The males were described as being in the mid 20’s to early 30’s. One male was wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans, the second had curly hair. A quantity of cash was stolen.

Further information also revealed a break-in also occurred nearby at a residence on Haddo Road, South Dundas Township between 2:30-4:45pm on April 6, 2015. A television and recording device were taken.

(South Glengarry) – Between March 30 – April 3, 2015, a recreational residence (cottage) located on Church Street, South Glengarry Township was entered. Inside, a stereo receiver, laptop computer, camera and a television were removed.

(South Stormont) – On April 5, 2015 between 4:45-7:00pm, a residence on Algonquin Avenue, South Stormont Township was entered. Inside, a music sound system, digital passport hard drive, laptop computer and a television were removed.

(South Dundas) – On April 5, 2015 between 4-8:00pm, a residence on Webb Road, South Dundas Township was entered. Inside, a laptop computer, Playstation, Nintendo Wi, Ipad Air, Acoustic Guitar and a television were removed.

Investigations continue on all of the above incidents.
