Stolen Vehicle Stop Results In Numerous Charges

On August 21, 2015 Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were patroling Highway 11-17 when the Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system alerted on a westbound car indicating it was stolen.

OPP ALPR vehicles utilize roof-mounted cameras to capture images of vehicles licence plates. The system then compares licence plates against a database of plates using the MTO (Ministry of Transportation) and CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) systems for various offences.

As a result of investigation three occupants of the vehicle were arrested. One young person was determined to have been an unknowing hitchhiker who was reported missing. With the assistance of Nipigon Children’s Aid Society (CAS) the young person was returned home.

Charged are:

Robert Michael TARAPASKI, a 31-year-old male from Winnipeg Manitoba has been charged with:

· Fail to Comply with Probation Order X 2

· Possession Of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

· Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 X 2

· Possession Of Break In Instruments

· Driving While Disqualified

Jocelyn Rain BONE, a 22-year-old female from Winnipeg Manitoba has been charged with:

• Fail to Comply with Probation Order

• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

• Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 X 2

• Possession of Break In Instruments

TARAPASKI and BONE have been remanded into custody.
