(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) – On Saturday June 11, 2016, shortly before 1:30 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to the Free Reformed Church at the intersection of Hwy 23 and Line 26, in response to a suspicious male accompanied by a dog, sleeping on the front steps of the church.
Witnesses revealed that the male had exited a Jeep Patriot sometime earlier and walked over to the church. The Jeep was located and it was determined that it had been reported stolen from London earlier that morning. The male was subsequently advised he was under arrest. The male refused to comply with officer’s commands and resisted arrest. The male was restrained and searched. Street drugs were located in his belongings.
25-year-old Ryan Curtis BURRILL of London has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:
Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
Resist peace officer
He was also charged with the following Controlled Drugs and Substances Act offences:
Possession of a schedule II substance – Cannabis Marihuana – under 30 grams
Possession of a schedule I substance – Methamphetamine
He was released on a Promise to Appear and has a court appearance scheduled for Monday July 25, 2016, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford.
The stolen vehicle has been returned to the owner in London.
