Stolen Vehicle Involved In Head On Collision

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On January 24, 2017, at approximately 9:12 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a motor vehicle collision on Southgate Sideroad 3 near Southgate Rd. 12 in the Township of Southgate.

The collision occurred when a northbound vehicle, a grey 1995 GMC S15, entered the southbound lane of Southgate Sideroad 3 and collided head-on with a grey 2003 Hummer. The driver of the HUMMER exited his vehicle and proceeded to check on the well-being of the driver of the GMC which was in the east ditch. He found no one inside or near the GMC which was demolished as a result of the head-on impact.

The driver of the Hummer, a 41-year old Southgate man, who was not injured, believes he observed another vehicle at the scene momentarily, just prior to the collision, before it fled.

At 10:03 p.m., while investigating the collision, police received information that the GMC was reported stolen earlier in the day from Confederation Park in Fergus.

Grey County OPP with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit, Mount Forest, continue to investigate and are asking any witnesses, or anyone with information which may assist, to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
