(KINGSVILLE, ON) – On September 18, 2016 at approximately 1:20 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a fail to remain motor vehicle collision on Road 3 West at McCain Side road in Kingsville, Ontario.
A witness at the scene led police to a grey Pontiac which had been occupied by a male and a female and had struck an orange Honda and then fled the scene. The vehicle was located parked and unoccupied a short distance from the location of the collision.
Police observed a male and a female running through a bean field to the rear of residences on Road 2 West in Kingsville, Ontario.
Officers received information that the Pontiac had recently been stolen from Amherstburg, Ontario and that it was linked to several recent thefts from vehicles and a break and enter in that municipality.
Containment of the area and a search by members from the Kingsville OPP detachment and surrounding detachments resulted in the tracking, location and arrest of the two persons near the property of the Kingsville Golf and Country Club in the 600 block of Essex County Road 20 in Kingsville, Ontario.
Joseph HANLON, age 27 of Amherstburg, Ontario will answer to charges of:
-Failing to Remain at the scene of an Accident
-Possession of Property Obtained By Crime – Under $5000
-Possession of Break and Enter Tools
Merna LAJOIE (F), age 36 of Windsor, Ontario will answer to the charge of:
-Possession of Property Obtained By Crime – Under $5000
Both parties remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
