Stolen Handgun Recovered – 17 Year Old Charged

(IROQUOIS FALLS) – On May 29, 2016, police were called to a Break and Enter on Victoria Road in Iroquois Falls. Police determined the suspect(s) had entered a residence and stolen a “Saturday Night Special” .25 caliber handgun.

After a brief but thorough investigation, police retrieved the handgun from a sewer manhole several blocks away from where the break and enter had occurred. Police have arrested and charged a 17 year old male from Iroquois Falls who cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The charges include:

3 counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance, contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code,

4 counts of Public Mischief, contrary to section140(1)(b) of the Criminal Code,

1 count of Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code ,

1 count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code,

2 counts of Break, Enter Dwelling House – Commit Indictable Offence, contrary to section 348(1) of the Criminal Code,

1 count of Fail to Comply with Sentence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The youth is scheduled for a bail hearing on June 2, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins.

Also charged in this investigation is Raymond LEBRUN, a 70 year old male from Iroquois Falls. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins on July 26, 2016 to answer to 1 count each of:

Careless Storage of a Firearm, contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code

Possession of Firearm – Contrary to a Prohibition Order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the Criminal Code

Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code.

The public is reminded to store their firearms unloaded, separate from ammunition, in a locked cabinet with a secure locking device such as a trigger lock or cable lock.
