(Bancroft, Ontario) – Sometime overnight on the 27th of November 2015, a residence in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands was broken into. Removed from the residence were 5 long-gun firearms. The culprits also broke into a garage on the property and removed an A.T.V. and a dirt-bike.
The firearms and dirt-bike were later recovered by police, and investigation by officers with the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) identified two suspects, who were subsequently arrested and charged.
19 year old Konner Brewitt of Bancroft was arrested on the 5th of December 2015, and held for bail, charged with possession of property obtained by crime; break & enter to steal firearm; driving while disqualified; and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle. A 16 year-old Hastings Highlands male was also arrested on the 6th day of December 2015, and was released on a Promise to Appear with an Officer In Charge’s Undertaking, charged with possession of property obtained by crime; break & enter to steal firearm; and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle. The male is scheduled to appear in Bancroft Youth Court on the 21st of January 2015.
The identity of the youth is being withheld, as per requirements of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
