(TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH) – On March 13, 2013, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a stolen motor vehicle northbound on the 400 Highway at Mapleview Drive, City of Barrie.
Two males were arrested and charged. Further investigation lead to twenty five hundred counterfeit and stolen credit numbers, counterfeit Ontario Driver licenses and a template to manufacture counterfeit Ontario Drivers licenses.
After a two week Superior Court trial, Rajeer Henry Balendra, a 33 year old Toronto resident was convicted of:
Conspiracy to commit fraud over $5000
Illegal possession of counterfeit data
Possession of counterfeit credit cards
Identity theft
Multiple financial institutions in Canada and the United States were victimized with potential loss of over 2 million dollars.
Balendra was sentenced to 4 years in custody by Superior Court Justice S.Healey.
