(CALEDON, ON) – On Friday, January 4, 2017 officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE (Reducing Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot check on Kennedy Road in the Town of Caledon. Members of the Caledon Detachment R.I.D.E. Unit observed a vehicle approach the spot check, and quickly make a U-turn to avoid police.
Officers eventually stopped a male driver operating a grey Acura. Upon investigation, the officer determined that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by the consumption of alcohol and arrested the driver.
As a result of the police investigation, Steven WILLIAMS, 53 of Mississauga was charged with the following offences:
Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Operation of a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Flight while Pursued by a Peace Officer
The 90 day Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and the involved motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on February 2, 2017.
