Steven Michael HIGGINS – Drive While Disqualified

(PICTON, ON) – On the 5th of November 2016 approximately 9:30pm, a Prince Edward OPP officer was operating a police cruiser equipped with an Automated Licence Plate Recognition System, a device that assists officers with identifying expired licence plates. The officer was patrolling on Loyalist Parkway when the device identified a suspect vehicle. The officer followed the vehicle for a short distance as it entered the town of Picton and then initiated a traffic stop on the Main Street.

The subsequent investigation revealed the driver was currently the subject of six driving suspensions both under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Highway Traffic Act. The licence plates were not authorized for the vehicle he was operating and turned out to be stolen. The driver was also not covered under an insurance policy to operate a motor vehicle.

The male driver, Steven Michael HIGGINS age 34 of Picton, was arrested and held for a bail hearing to answer to all related charges.
