(CALEDON, ON) – On November 17, 2013 shortly before 2:45 am, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was responding to a call for service in the area of Troiless Street and Travelled Road. While en route, the officer observed a white Ford F350 pick-up truck travelling westbound on Travelled Road when he failed to stop for the stop sign. The vehicle continued in the direction of the marked police cruiser and the driver of the pick-up truck stopped to speak with the officer. The officer immediately detected that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. As a result, the officer demanded a sample of the driver’s breath and he was transported to detachment for testing.
Once the investigation was concluded, Steven John Ryan BRAAKSMA, 26, of Caledon was arrested and charged with Over 80. He is also facing two charges under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario for Disobey Stop Sign and for Driving Motor Vehicle with no currently validated permit.
The Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on November 27, 2013.
